Sleep
• by Randy Carlsen
Infants require about 16 hours of sleep a day, teens nine hours and adults seven to eight hours. The amount of sleep required varies with the individual.
We are creatures of habit when it comes to sleeping. If I make an effort to go to bed early I wake up earlier. If I stay up later I still get up about the same time.
Sleep in on weekends? Maybe an extra 10 minutes at best and that's only after laying in bed with my eyes open for those 10 minutes.
Our bodies are like a clock. I never set an alarm and never have. My body tells me when it's time to wake up. If I am on vacation or have a couple of days off my sleeping habits never change. That is just the way it is with some of us.
There are nights when watching the 9 p.m. news is a must because waiting until the 10 p.m. news is way too late. As we age from teens to adults we need less sleep and then the curve starts to go the other way. I'm starting to feel like I am on the curve that requires a little more sleep.
I don't have a sleep number either. As long as I have my two pillows it doesn't matter. Sweet dreams!
